Hi! I’m Kerry Smith, Mrs. Lady Wordsmith.
Welcome! You’re here to discover ways you can better educate yourself and your family. And you’re in the right place! MrsLadyWordsmith.com supports all efforts to engage your family in reading and writing activities.
Reading
Maybe you have a struggling reader? Or maybe everyone in your family loves to read. Wherever you are, I’ll be sharing materials you can download and use or link to online. Reading is my passion. I grew up with a parent who never learned to read well, and yet he still loved to read books. On our family farm, I had a lot of downtime, with next-to-no television reception and few neighborhood kids. So I read and read and read. It was the perfect escape for me, and from this skill, I’ve learned all I need to know. If I want to accomplish something, I google it or get a book. Let me absorb the information, and I’m on a roll. I want to share this gift and excitement with anyone who has the desire to learn too.
Writing
You don’t have to be an accomplished author to practice good writing skills. In fact, any job in which you may be employed benefits from you knowing and using good writing skills. I’ll share practical grammar tricks to help you learn the basics that will show others you are a good communicator and know skills that set you apart from your coworkers.
If you’re a writer and love, love it, let’s explore together some wonderful ways to share our talents. There are artistic hobbies perfect for writers, online opportunities, and ways to serve others with our valuable skills.
Scriptures
I’m a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoy sharing my love for the scriptures. I read and believe in the Bible (KJV) and Book of Mormon, as well as other scriptures. Sometimes the reading the scriptures is a challenge; it can be hard to read and understand them for our day. I share ideas to help all Christians understand them a bit more.
Quotes and Printables
Love a good quote? I absolutely do, and there’s art in the written word. I enjoy creating decorative and functional printables to share with you. Since I’m bilingual, I also enjoy creating printables to serve my many Spanish-speaking friends.
My Background
On a professional level, I have a bachelor’s degree in English from Utah State University. I’m a former full-time editor and writer for the Ensign magazine. Here are links to three of my favorite articles I’ve written for the Ensign: Staying the Course, a news piece about my former alma mater, Ricks College, and a piece I wrote on behalf of the author listed.
I also manage Sugardoodle.net and am the owner of UtahFamilyFunStuff.com, a local go-to for events, classes, camps, and family resources in the Greater Salt Lake City Area.
Thank you for joining me as I share ways to inspire individuals and families with the gifts of reading and writing. I live by the motto: Read to learn.
