I just now finished The Last Bookshop in London. I just now finished The Last Bookshop in London.

There have been some interruptions to my reading time, and today I was finally able to cozy up and escape.

This book gives me courage. Grace, the main character, survives the London blitz by sharing her love of books with other survivors.

But it’s more than that. She rebuilds lives as people come together in great need.

Gathering to listen to Grace read, their souls are saved. Literally.

I often feel deep connections to others when discussing shared reads.

I believe couple and family bonds may be strengthened by reading too.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book is absolutely clean and worth having in your mind.

There’s not much time for me to read this weeken There’s not much time for me to read this weekend, but so far I’m loving this one.

The Last Bookshop in London is off to a good start for me.

It begins just before the Blitz. Friends Grace and Viv have just arrived in London, about to begin their dreams of living and working in the big city.

I’m not too far in yet … But Grace has just landed a job in a bookshop, not what she wants but a start to prove herself. She knows she can turn around the disorganized shop and make a difference. She did so at her uncle’s shop, but after her mom’s death, he turned vitriolic and kicked her out of her childhood home, which he owned.

Obviously, she no longer wanted to work for him. Despite all her hard work, he would not write her a letter of recommendation—an essential to procure a good job.

So Grace has a fresh chance at the dingy bookstore with a grouchy boss.

That’s as far as I’ve read.

But I’m very interested to read more about the bookshop, representative of the few bookshops in London to survive the air raids. Books proved to be a lifeline for Londoners during a difficult time.

Have you read this one? What did you think of it?
Merry Christmas from me to you! This isn’t my Merry Christmas from me to you!

This isn’t my dog, but if we were to get another dog, we’d get one just like Cap. We love his brother Indy too.

Anyway, whether you have a dog or not, may you snuggle up and read today.

Enjoy the day completely.

I’ll see you soon with some fun book ideas. 🎄
I don’t know who needs this, but THIS is my favo I don’t know who needs this, but THIS is my favorite book light.

I tried many. Returned several. This is the one that my poor eyes can see with.

I have kerataconus, which is a nasty, genetic eye disorder.

So adequate lighting is essential for me.

I love that this light has four very good light strength options and the two “wings” are completely adjustable. Move them inward, outward—wherever you need a little spotlight.

It all comes with a charging cord so I never have to buy batteries.

It’s available in a few colors. Mine is pink so my boys won’t steal it. 🤣

You might be crazy busy with Christmas right now, You might be crazy busy with Christmas right now, but downtime will come soon … hopefully.

After the presents are unwrapped on Christmas morning, I always snuggle up with a good book.

Maybe you’re that way too.

If you’re trying to read more, try these four hacks.

I can help you with the first one. You are MOST welcome to join my Facebook ladies’ book club group.

We are drama free and specialize in clean reads.

The link to my group is in my bio, or you can comment here and I’ll send it to you.

For those of you who read a lot, what hacks would you add to this short list?

If I were to add a fifth, I’d say that listening to audiobooks definitely counts as reading too.

What would you say should be #6?
The Santa Suit. 🎅🏻 This fun read pops up on The Santa Suit. 🎅🏻 This fun read pops up on all the suggested Christmas book lists.

But is it a clean read? Or does Santa become … smutty?

I have to ask that question nowadays since so many bestsellers are the latter.

But this one’s pretty good. It’s not squeaky clean, but for a modern read it’s pretty close.

Snuggle up with this one and enjoy. It’s a little different from the typical Hallmark romance read, but it still has that feel.

Normally, it’s not my recommended genre, but this is a fun one for Christmastime.

Snag a copy to enjoy, then pass it along to a friend who needs a warm fuzzy.
I’m reading this with my son and chose it becaus I’m reading this with my son and chose it because he’s in the school play Scrooge.

Turns out, this book is excellent! We’re about 1/4 of the way in.

The main character is a young boy, George, whose mother passed away a couple of years ago at Christmastime.

Sadly, his dad has banned ALL Christmas celebrations in an attempt to deal with his grief and loss.

But a local shop owner, Marley, has begun to work his magic. And George’s Nan sneaks in the Christmas cheer.

It’s already a magical journey for my son and I to snuggle up and enjoy.

I’m glad I spotted this one in November and ordered early. Amazon ships after the holidays on this one, but you may be able to snag it at a local bookstore. Or listen to it on Audible.

If not, save this one for next holiday season. For ages 8-13. 🎄
Just for fun, I thought I’d share a bulletin boa Just for fun, I thought I’d share a bulletin board I made with a friend for my son’s classroom yesterday.

I designed the signs, bought the knitted hat, cute scarf, and snowman tin at a local thrift shop.

I scoured Pinterest for ideas, then pretty much came up with my own

The kids each wrote something kind they’ve done for someone else on each of the snowballs stapled to the board.

Then they’re invited to use scrap paper, write down more acts of service, scrunch into a paper snowball, and put it in the tin.

I hope it’ll encourage them to focus on kindness this holiday season.

I’ve also suggested the teacher play short segments from Steve Hartmans’s CBS program On the Road, now morphed into a Kindness 101 series.

They’re fabulous, if you haven’t seen them.

#kindness101
Cursed. The sequel to Gilded. Did I love it??? O Cursed. The sequel to Gilded.
Did I love it???

Oh my! Why, yes I did. 😊

I was introduced recently to Gilded, so it’s fresh in my mind, which made it easy to slide into Cursed, recently released November 8.

Fantasy thriller. Not my usual genre but very engaging.

The Earlking is at it again. Serilda, the miller’s daughter, is forced to marry him so he can claim her unborn child (son of Gilded).

But does his plan work out? The Earlking plans to give the child to his first wife, his true love—Perchta.

She’s quite the character, an evil force you just want to smack!

As a couple, they definitely deserve each other’s wicked selves.

But can the innocents be saved? Serilda? Gilded? The baby? The villagers?

You’ll just have to read to find out.

Note: Minor cursing. Lots of blood and gore. Macabre. The story is woke. The Gods are they/them. Not sure if that’s just for plurality or other … Two couples are in same-sex relationships. No sex or inappropriate intimacy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I do recommend this one for an engaging, intense read.
In the mood for a good Christmas read? This is it. In the mood for a good Christmas read? This is it.

Dad wants to give his sons the ultimate Christmas gift, something money can’t buy.

So he partners with a doctor whose name is quite similar to Chris Kringle.

The doctor shows his teen friends to a special ward in his hospital where Christmas cheer is very much in need for the other youth there receiving care.

Friendships form, life lessons are learned, and the Christmas season becomes the ultimate experience.

There’s love and loss. Keep your tissues close by.

🎄Clean read with very minor language. I highly recommend it.
So many of our kids struggle to tell time on an an So many of our kids struggle to tell time on an analog clock.

PLEASE work with your child to make sure they understand this valuable life skill.

I applaud the 4th grade teacher who has this clock on her classroom wall.

Swipe to see the color timer she uses. I also have one for my piano students. I bought it years ago when my oldest son was little. It really helped him to see and understand the concept of 5 minutes and so forth. ⏰

Digital clicks aren’t always around. Yet many kids rely on them to know what time it is. Even then, they sometimes don’t understand what the numbers mean. They’re just numbers. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Telling time is, of course, taught at school (third grade).

But some kids forget and some never master the skill in the first place. Sadly, I’ve worked with junior high and high school kids who ask me what time it is when there’s a clock on the wall right by them. It’s happened a number of times.

Make sure your child or grandchild KNOWS.
