I’ve been wanting to read The Slow March of Light, by @authorhbmoore for months.

“Surrounded by constant danger, an American soldier works as a spy in Soviet-occupied East Germany. Meanwhile, a West German nurse helps her countrymen escape from behind the Berlin Wall.”

This is the July book selection for my neighborhood book club. Can’t wait to dig in!

Unfortunately, I have to clean my house first and get ready to host a family event. (JK, I love family gatherings 😊.) But I also really, really just want to snuggle up and read this.

We are reading this one as a family. 💜

I have two sons, ages 9 and 19. To find a book that captures their attention plus is fun for us as parents is a challenge. This book is doing the trick nicely.

A funny story about it … Years ago my husband and I both mentioned how we had loved this book as kids.

My husband mentioned a few of his favorite parts. I butted in to say, “That’s not how the story goes!”

Not one to back down, he insisted he was right.

So we read the book together—to once again enjoy the story … and see who was right. 🤣

I couldn’t believe it. He WAS right! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

We still laugh about it and he mentions it when proving his point on other things. 😆

Anywho, this story is a keeper for sure!

It’s here! The sequel to The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek is excellent! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Now we hear about the daughter of Cussy Lovett, Honey. Her parents are imprisoned for lawlessness—a white marrying a colored, though she happens to be blue.

With racism and poverty at its core, this novel once again explores the back trails of Appalachia and the families who lived there in the 1950s.

Without parents at home, Honey must make her own way in Kentucky or risk going with other orphans to harsh work conditions.

An old family friend takes her in, and for a time she is safe. But old age sets in and her loving caregiver dies.

But Honey has pluck—just like her mama! So she applies for a job to cover her mom’s old Pack Horse library route.

Follow her adventures in this well-written sequel.

It’s every bit as good as the first one. And if you haven’t read that one yet, it’s currently free on Kindle Unlimited or 40% off a copy.

⭐️Super clean. No surprises except good drama and plot.

I’m Kerry Smith. My husband and I live in the Salt Lake City area with our two sons.

I’m passionate about writing, editing, and reading. I was a full-time editor and writer for the former Ensign magazine.

When I became a stay-at-home mom, I promised myself I would continue those skills.

I’ve done a lot of freelance work, writing and editing for several websites and clients.

I have my own two websites: MrsLadyWordsmith.com and UtahFamilyFunStuff.com.

I’m currently coauthoring a book about two families’ journey with autism. Our family is part of that equation. 💜

Aside from all the bookish stuff, I love the outdoors, teach piano, and absolutely love being with family and friends.

Ever since I was a little girl, our family has paid tribute to our ancestors and decorated their gravesites for this special weekend.

It’s a BIG tradition in southern Idaho and Utah to do this. We also, of course, pay tribute to our veterans. 🇺🇸

Charming! 🦋

Littlest One is chatty and very perceptive for her young age. She also has a gossamer touch, light and feathery like a cobweb.

Her special gift allows her to softly touch all the memory items: a blanket, a picture, a shell remnant—all the things one keeps and that hold memories.

Then she bestows those memories, beautiful as well as some sad, as dreams upon their owners.

***Young John needs those dreams. As does his caretaker, the old woman and former school teacher.

Troubled pasts affect John, who has been placed in many foster care situations. As such, the Sinisteeds are out to get him with their cruel nightmares.

Can Littlest One make a difference? Can she help John?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I adored this Yearling book. Perfect for ages 9-12 and absolutely clean.

We are cowriting a book. This is my writer bestie Heather of @heathershelpfulstories

Years ago, we raised our children together. I had one; she had eight. I often needed to borrow children for play dates. She gladly supplied them. 😊

We bonded on many levels. One key area: autism.

Our sons are now 20 and 29. They were diagnosed with autism at young ages. They represent two very different journeys along the autism path. They are both successful individuals in their own ways.

As such, we are often asked “how we did it.”

We’ll be first to admit nothing about our experiences was perfect. At the time, we had to pioneer a lot of solutions.

Now we feel it’s time to share some of the ups and downs, some of the successes and do-overs.

Most of all, we intend to share optimism and hope for autism.

We hope you’ll join us. Stay tuned … 💜

Holocaust stories are hard to read. They just are.

Holocaust stories are hard to read. They just are. But I’m often drawn to them. I’ve read many.

In doing so, I hope to bring honor to the lives of those who have endured so much. I acknowledge that their stories are true.

Living or dead, these people have a voice that continues to speak to me.

Like many of you, I read The Tatooist of Auschwitz when it first came out. I found it to be a powerful account.

Three Sisters, also by the same author, came to be as family members read the first book and realized it was also a story of their mothers/grandmothers: Three Sisters.

They knew the tatooist. They knew his wife, Gale. They also survived to tell their story.

If you’re at all inclined to read a Holocaust account, I highly recommend this one.

You’ll gain powerful insight as you learn from their journey. So much of what we face today pales in comparison to what these women endured.

Yet our trials are still trials. Let these sisters guide you and show you how to endure well.

*This is a very clean read as far as wording and content. Many of the horrid details are left to the imagination. Nothing is written that shouldn’t be shared.

Yesterday a dream I didn’t know I had was fulfilled. 💜

I have loved Lois Lowry ever since I read The Giver in junior high.

Yesterday she seemed to speak to me in person … along with hundreds of others in a very large gathering, her first public speaking engagement since the pandemic started.

She was just a blip from my vantage point, but I could hear her clearly. And I listened to every word.

It wasn’t really what she said but HOW she said it. I learned about her, her life, challenges she’s endured, her cleverness, her ability to relate. Her passion for life and her perceptiveness are evident as she speaks. She doesn’t miss a thing.

She’s charming, relatable—just the perfect author lady I’ve always imagined.

You know how you sometimes find yourself completely admiring someone and then in real life they disappoint? I’m delighted this wasn’t the case. I still adore her.

And do you know what I personally learned from what she didn’t say?

Older ladies can accomplish amazing things. I’m in that boat. And I’ll keep rowing.

She makes it all look delightful—the journey of life and words. 💜

I feel many steps closer to my writing goals, to publishing. Attending with friend Heather Davis of @heathershelpfulstories was like a girls’ weekend and a “lets-learn-all-the-things” course all rolled into one.

I like my home to reflect who I am. I don’t often spend a lot of $ on decor items but, instead, love to work with what I have, changing and moving things around.
