Accepting the Liebster Award

I’m thrilled! Thank you so much to Tasheena of The Cinnamon Mom for recommending mrsladywordsmith.com for The Liebster Award. Tasheena writes about life as a mom, sharing her 10 years of experience in the early childhood development and education fields, through real-life family application. New to the blogging sphere, she’s doing a great job and making progress in a competetive blogging niche. I hope you’ll visit her site soon.

Tasheena recommended mrsladywordsmith.com for the Liebster Award in recognition of my efforts to educate others about the importance of connecting with family and others. Tasheena and I promote strong families and share our passions with many of you, our readers and friends.

The Liebster Award is designed for new and upcoming bloggers to build their audience and to welcome them into the community. Mrsladywordsmith.com was chosen from many online applicants. To get to know me and my site better, Tasheena has asked me a few questions, to which I have gladly responded:

How did you come up with your blogโ€™s name?Good question! I’ve rebranded a couple of times. First I was My Random Sampler, named after a column I used to write for the Ensign magazine before the column was retired several years ago. Then, at the encouragement of several writer friends, my family and I did Go Beyond Autism. My oldest has high-functioning autism. We did that for a year but decided it just wasn’t the right niche for us. We actually, in real life, don’t focus on autism all that much. We focus, instead, on developing skills and solutions to solve any problems we encounter, with or without special needs. Since it’s usually just Mom who blogs anyway, I went back for a final blogging adventure earlier this year: mrsladywordsmith.com. It’s me. I’m Kerry Smith. I can blog about anything I want. Currently my niche is focusing on helping others to connect with family and friends evey day. People who learn to become interesting communicators excel at reaching out to others. So I often share ideas and books for reading and writing, and service. Those ideas tie in beautifully with autism, and I still write autism-specific posts as well.

What is your favorite post you have written? Probably my two favorite posts so far are designed for those who love to read clean books. For me, books are friends, and I don’t like to be surprised by foul language and other garbage i don’t want in my mind. If you’re like me, then you’ll love this post about how to find clean reads and this post about 65 recommended clean books. Happy reading!

How do you unwind? I’m a professional napper. I love to sleep. I can sleep anywhere, anytime–even during delivery with my second son (true story).

Any words you live by? The answer is for sure NO unless you TRY.

Favorite place to go with your family? Our family cabin. It’s peaceful, remote, and absolutely refreshing to be there. I’m grateful to my father-in-law for his foresight in creating this little slice of heaven on earth for his descendants.

Favorite holiday to celebrate? Probably Christmas, though I say this with some hesitation. I absolutely LOVE the Christmas season and what it stands for–Christ. But I am often sucked up into all the hoopla and chaos. I’m resolved to not let that happen this year. My strategy? Plan ahead and just enjoy.

Three things you cannot live without.
My iphone (sadly), my computer, (sadly), and books. You did say “things.” My family and God come first–above all things.

If you could be on any TV show, what would you pick? Hmmm. I hardly watch tv.

Where do you see yourself in five years? With a strong family. My husband is successful, and we’re working hard to raise independent kids. Keeping our fingers crossed. ๐Ÿ™‚

My husband and I have two wonderful sons. They’re 10 years apart, and we’re so grateful to have them. I love to share tips for strengthening home and family, as well as fun ideas for reading and writing. When we find something that’s especially helpful in facing the challenges of autism, I share that too.
