Hi! I’m Kerry Smith, Mrs. Lady Wordsmith. And this is my husband, Cole. I guess you could call him Mr. Wordsmith. He’s a great writer, too. We have two sons. They’re born 10 years apart, so we like to joke that we have two only children. 🙂
I created this website for several reasons. Mainly, it’s a space for me to write and share creative ideas that I either brainstorm on my own, find from others, or modify from what I see others do. I think we’re all a little bit like that.
But what does this matter to you? What makes my site worth your time to visit? Maybe nothing. Or maybe everything.
Reading and Writing. I have a passion for reading and sharing that joy with others. I have taught and encouraged literacy everywhere I have lived: Utah, Idaho, and Paraguay, South America. I have a BS in English from Utah State University, and I’m a former staff member for the Ensign magazine. I enjoyed several years there as an editor and writer. I have also been a substitute teacher and enjoyed teaching Title 1 students who struggle to read. I have been asked to mentor students. I have taught Spanish literacy skills to impoverished Paraguayans seeking knowledge.
Autism. I have also shared the joy of reading and learning with my children. My two sons have held books in their little hands as soon as they were able. Mommy has read to them every night for years. My oldest son has high-functioning autism. I credit our time reading together with solving many issues. I enjoy blogging about these successes and am happy to share anything that we find particularly useful to those with autism.
Photography and Printables. I also enjoy sharing my photography and printables. Several years ago, I realized that beautiful, free images of Jesus Christ were hard to find online. I share my growing collection here and include other images and printables that might be useful to you. I retain the copyrights to all, but you are free to use them for noncommercial purposes. Please retain the watermark or seek my permission first before removing it.
Family. I blog about my family, calling my boys Big Bro and Little Bro. I don’t usually include their pictures. They’re both young. But my oldest wants to do videos and other cool things, so I will share this space with him. I am such an advocate for strong families. I will gladly share any ideas that help us as we raise a son with special needs.
Reviews and Utah Resources. When I find an excellent book or product, I love to share it! I’m not talking MLM or sales. This is a genuine hobby of mine, and anyone who knows me personally knows I am this way. I do not seek to promote something just because. I have to really love it first. Also, our family lives in Utah. I am the SLC editor for KidsOutAndAbout.com. Naturally, I want to share local stuff too, though this site isn’t intended to be just for Utahns.
And so . . . I am Mrs. Lady Wordsmith. I will share the ideas I find and discover in hopes that they help you and make a difference in your life.
